El primer single “Hunger” define el momento actual de la carrera de Florence, aunando un texto íntimo y de honestidad cruda, con un sentido de la aceptación más amplio. Es una magnífica introducción al nuevo álbum de Florence + The Machine. Se aventura en nuevos territorios a la vez que permanece anclado a sus raíces. Florence comenzó a componer el disco (también es el primero que co-produce oficialmente) en solitario en el sur de Londres, yendo en bici a su estudio de Peckham diariamente, como ella misma expresa: “y eché el resto”. Se llevó las canciones a Los Ángeles y con su amigo y co-productor del disco Emile Haynie, abriéndose a colaboraciones en el proceso con artistas como Kamasi Washington, Sampha, Tobias Jesso Jr, Kelsey Lu y Jamie xx. Florence mezcló el álbum en Nueva York, donde la visión de su icónico skyline a diario –a menudo en clara oposición con el caos del resto del mundo – otorgó al álbum su título.

‘High As Hope’ tiene el sonido de una artista que se presenta más segura de sí misma que nunca. Florence escribe sobre su adolescencia y juventud con una perspectiva de renovada madurez acerca de crecer en el sur de Londres, de su familia, las relaciones y del arte en sí mismo. “Hay mucho amor en este disco, también soledad, pero mucho amor.”

Un álbum que mezcla altibajos. ‘High As Hope’ está formado, dice Florence, “de alegría y furia”…pero donde la alegría indiscutiblemente sale victoriosa al final. “Siempre es un trabajo en curso, desde luego me queda mucho por discernir. Es una expresión pura de mi momento como artista, de gran honestidad. Me siento más a gusto en mi piel.” Y ese es el comienzo de un viaje mucho más lejano para Florence Welch.
